Like some of you other fun loving trouble makers, I have been responsible for getting the cops to our house. Maybe the sheriff should write a book about Dog Calls. Anyhow, my Mom's daughter Susan came home alone one night from shopping. Mom and Dad were at an ice hockey game. Susan is usually away at college. So when she comes home, I get pretty excited. This time, I accidentally shut the door in her face as she was trying to open it. I jumped up to greet her, but I got the door instead. Well, she freaked. She was sure there was a burglar inside our house who slammed the door shut. Like who's going to come in here with three Cocker Spaniels standing guard?! Anyhow, she went to the neighbor's and called the police. Meanwhile, the alarm went off because Susan had opened the door and didn't go to punch in the code since she was too scared about the robbers.
We have had robberies in our neighborhood, but those houses did not have fine guard dogs like us on duty. When the cops came, you have never heard such a racket. House alarm going off, police invading our house with flashlights and guns. It was pretty scary actually. Especially for Cookie and Candy, my packmates. The police were very thorough, but they didn't seem to want to throw my tennis ball for me.
It was nice that they didn't laugh too much in front of Susan. I think they waited until they got back to the sheriff station. My Mom is a former Mayor for our city, so she was embarrassed. But I didn't mean to do it. If Susan wouldn't go away to college, I wouldn't need to miss her so much and jump up on the door. ---Danny Boy (Cocker in California)
